Police: 22-year-old man shot in face, calf in White Plains

White Plains police are investigating a shooting Friday afternoon in Downtown White Plains.
Police say that a 22-year-old man was shot in the face and calf. Authorities say that their injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
Police say that at least four shots were fired around North Lexington and Hamilton avenues around 1:35 p.m. They believe an initial incident occurred near MLK and Barker Avenue.
Police told News 12 that the man who was shot was driving a late-model BMW, which was found in the roadway on North Lexington Avenue, just north of Hamilton Avenue. The handle on the vehicle's driver-side door appeared to be ripped off, and the vehicle had four apparent bullet holes.
Police also say it appeared that another vehicle was involved and was occupied by several subjects.
“Thankfully, we’ve had a lot of people from the area come forward to try to help us. If there’s anybody else that is aware of anything, however small, that they think might help us in this investigation to please call the police station,” says White Plains Police Chief Joe Castelli.
Some nearby residents told News 12 that they’re concerned this happened in the middle of a busy area.
“I can’t believe something would happen like this in broad daylight…It makes me worried about my girls growing up and being out on their own and walking around town, shopping, getting coffee,” says Kim Tranchida, a White Plains resident.
Tranchida told News 12 that learning that shots were fired so close to her daughter’s preschool and in an area she comes to often was “terrifying.”
"I feel a little shaken up given that this is my child’s pre-K area and also the train station where I go often,” she said.
White Plains police are encouraging anyone who may have information regarding this incident to call the police department.
