Police have charged a 40-year-old Bronx woman with manslaughter and endangering the welfare of a child after a 20-month-old found in her apartment died.
Neighbors say Athena Skeeter operates a day care out of the second-floor apartment.
The baby boy identified as Cardell Williamson was struggling to breathe Friday on a bed at 1374 College Ave., police say.
Officers began CPR and took the boy to Lebanon Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
In court documents, Skeeter says, "I lifted him by one arm and one leg and threw him to the floor...I then threw my son on top of Cardell and stepped on his stomach three times. Cardell acted different after that. He threw up. His head kept tilting. He couldn't walk on his own."
Skeeter also told police she put Cardell in the bathroom, turned away for a moment, and found the child unresponsive with burns.
The case is still under investigation.
