Police: Driver tried to 'beat the train' Tuesday in Blauvelt

Orangetown police gave three summonses to the 31-year-old driver, who is from Spring Valley.

The public is being reminded to drive safely following Tuesday morning's crash involving a car and CSX freight train.
Orangetown police say the 31-year-old driver told them he tried to “beat the train” on his way to work at Amazon.
As News 12 previously reported, a black Prius was smashed at the rail crossing on Oritani Drive in Blauvelt.
No one was hurt.
Orangetown police gave three summonses to the driver, who is from Spring Valley.
CSX, the freight train company involved in Tuesdays crash, shared these safety tips, including "do not try to beat a train."
Federal transportation data shows there have been nearly two dozen incidents at rail crossings in Rockland County from 2015 to 2025.
