Police are investigating the death of a dog found dead in Bedford Park.
Joel Mendez, who has had his dog Sky for seven years, says he found her dead after she "fell" from a roof of 280 East199 St. on Feb. 26.
"I ended up seeing her on her side when she got hit, and it was one of my fears for a long time and it came true in the worst way," said Mendez.
Neighbors who know and love the dog say there was something off leading up to her death.
Ring camera footage shows the landlord walking up the steps to the roof of the building with Sky later following him up the stairs.
More video obtained by neighbors captures the sound of painful cries from Joel's dog.
That's when Joel says concerned neighbors started looking for the dog and saw the landlord.
Minutes later, the dog is seen on video falling to its death from the roof.
"It's something unforgettable and something I will never forgive him for," says Mendez.
Based on all that neighbors and Joel witnessed and put together, they believe the landlord may have had something to do with it.
"He took away a family member from us...he didn't take a pet," says Mendez.
News 12 reached out to the landlord who says he only saw the dog after she fell from the roof, and that he has never seen the dog before this incident.
