Police: Man dies of self-inflicted gunshot wound following standoff with police in Yonkers

A wellness check in Yonkers turned deadly Saturday.
Officers were called to a residence of a 50-year-old man on Livingston Avenue at around 10:45 a.m.
Police say they were immediately met with gunfire when they tried to entire.
Multiple surrounding streets were closed as negotiators attempted to fix the issue.
Police began firing back and then retreated back inside where they found him dead due to an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Yonkers Deputy Chief Joseph Monaco says police located a male on the floor with a semiautomatic rifle next to him at around 6:40 p.m. He says he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
“We are continuing the investigation and collecting evidence from the front of the house,” Monaco says.
No officers or surrounding residents were injured during the standoff.
The identity of the man has not been released, but police say he has a history with law enforcement and neighbor recently called the police on him.
