A former restaurant owner from Suffern was taken into custody Friday for allegedly trying to sell thousands of dollars worth of counterfeit products.
Police say Gregg Schwack, 43, arranged a party at a Suffern restaurant earlier this week, inviting people on the Internet to look at designer items.
According to investigators, Schwack was in possession of handbags, belts, watches and other goods from designers like Ed Hardy, Chanel and Cartier, valued in total at more than $80,000.
The Ed Hardy clothing company had hired a private investigator, who tipped off the authorities about the alleged counterfeit party.
Schwack faces nine counts of trademark counterfeiting. He is due back in court in March.
