Police say two people were injured after gunfire rang out inside the Galleria at Crystal Run mall Sunday afternoon, prompting an evacuation.
They say a man discharged a handgun on the mall's second floor near the American Eagle store around 3 p.m. Police say a round was apparently fired into the floor.
Chief Robert Hertman, of the Wallkill Police Department, says a 49-year-old woman from Goshen and her 12-year-old son suffered minor abrasions during the incident. He says they were both treated and released from Orange County Regional Medical Center.  Hertman says he believes the two were injured as a result of the the round being discharged into the floor.
Town of Woodbury police had said in a social media post that the shooting may have been an accidental discharge of a firearm, but that has not been confirmed by investigators on the case.
No arrests have been made. Officials describe the shooter as wearing a dark jacket and gray pants. Officials say he was with a female wearing maroon pants, a dark jacket and pushing a baby stroller.
The gunfire scare came on a busy weekend at the mall following Black Friday, which marks the start of the holiday shopping season.
The scene was quickly swarmed by police, who evacuated the mall. By the early evening, the parking lot was mostly empty except for response vehicles.
