Police responded to shots fired outside Mount Vernon High School on Monday afternoon.
The reports of shots fired came in around 2:30 p.m.
Authorities say they found three shell casings, and the school was placed on lockdown.
No injuries have been reported.
After police arrived at the high school, more officers were called up to surrounding areas, as well as county and federal partners to aid in the investigation.
Dismissal happened after 3 p.m. and was said to be smooth.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Mount Vernon Detective Division at 914-665-2510.
Mount Vernon Superintendent Dr. Kenneth R. Hamilton released the following statement:
Shortly before 2 p.m. today, February 7, 2022, three shots were fired outside Mount Vernon High School from a passing car. No one was struck or injured during this incident. The Mount Vernon police were called immediately, and the school was placed in a state of lockdown while police and school security monitors investigated. Students were dismissed safely at 3:05 p.m., about 15 minutes later than usual, and the investigation continues. We have video footage of the vehicle, a dark grey Mercedes Benz.
Ongoing emotional supports will be available for community members as needed.
We have put security protocols and additional security in place. Until further notice, I am restricting vehicular traffic on the MVHS campus with the exception of school personnel. Visitors will be limited. Student drop-off and pick-up will be limited to California Road.
I must commend the staff and students for their cooperation and assistance today.
