Police step up search for missing Brooklyn woman
State police spent Thursday scouring at least three different locations in the Hudson Valley in attempt to find evidence regarding the whereabouts of a missing Brooklyn woman.
The victim?s brother, Nicholas Garza, traveled from Texas to help solve the mystery surrounding the disappearance of his sister, Laura Garza. The 25-year-old went missing Dec. 3 after coming out of a Manhattan nightclub in the company of convicted sex offender Michael Mele.
"We have a lot of faith that we're going to find her," says Garza?s brother. "I don't know what it's going to take, but we're going find her."
Mele remains the prime suspect in the disappearance of the Brooklyn woman. Garza was last seen with Mele in Newburgh, but then vanished without a trace. Mele remains in jail on a probation violation as the search for Garza continues.
In Orange County, police spent hours searching a wooded area surrounding Mele's Middletown condominium after gathering evidence inside his home. They say the residence was wiped down with bleach and a section of carpet is missing.
Nicolas Garza says his sister had big dreams of becoming a dancer in New York, and now he is pleading for her safe return.
"We're looking for you, don't worry," he says. "We love you, and we're going find you."
So far, Mele has not been charged with any wrongdoing in Garza?s disappearance.
