Police say a suspect deliberately lured police officers to a home in Bristol prior to fatally shooting two law enforcement officials and seriously injuring another.

State police say a 911 call was made in a deliberate act to lure law enforcement to a home at 310 Redstone Hill Road about a mile from ESPN headquarters around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. 

Police say the suspect was outside on the front lawn and began immediately firing shots at officers arriving at the scene.

Officer Alex Hamzy died at the scene. Sgt. Dustin Demonte was taken to Bristol Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Officer Alec Iurato was transported to St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, where he underwent surgery for serious wounds.

The suspect, who has been identified as Nicholas Brutcher, 35, was shot and killed at the scene.

Police say Brutcher's brother, Nathan Brutcher, was also shot and transported to St. Francis for treatment of his wounds.

Demonte, 35, leaves behind a wife and two children with one on the way. He was the school resource officer in the city and part of the officers involved in the Explorers group. Demonte served for 10 1/2 years.

Hamzy, 34, served on the force for eight years. He leaves behind a wife.

Iurato has been serving with the department for four years.

A neighbor tells News 12 she heard at least 10 gunshots in a burst.

Police say there is no threat to the community and that the incident was isolated.

Gov. Ned Lamont has directed U.S. and state flags lowered to half-staff in honor of the two officers killed in the line of duty.
