Port Jervis police remembered one of their own Tuesday - an officer who died in the line of duty 69 years ago.
Police Officer John MacKechnie was beaten and strangled by a suspect inside the old City Hall on Sussex Street March 18, 1949.
MacKechnie was questioning Harold Brundage in an interrogation room that doubled as an evidence locker when police say Brundage grabbed a shotgun nearby and struck the officer unconscious during the attack.
Brundage was charged with murder and committed to a state hospital.
MacKechnie left behind his wife, Kathleen, and their two children, Kay and John.
