Four Poughkeepsie city firefighters and the department's ex-chief are being hailed heroes after they helped bring a man back to life.
Marc Vandewater went into cardiac arrest as the 4 p.m. Palm Sunday service was beginning at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
According to the man's son, David Vandewater, everybody in the church jumped to action, including a former fire chief who was in
attendance. David Vandewater says firefighters Tom Davison, Dan Richards, Ron Holder, Andy Clegg and ex-chief Mark Johnson brought his father
back to life after he was unresponsive for 14 minutes.
“Thank you to everybody who stepped up and had a hand in helping my father be where he is today,” said David Vandewater.
His father remains hospitalized but is doing much better.
