Power and phone service were restored to the village of Elmsford Tuesday afternoon after a garbage truck snagged overhead wires along Route 9A, downing a utility pole.
The power outage, which happened at around 8:45 a.m., affected the village hall, the police department and other buildings in a six-block radius for a few minutes as Con Edison crews picked up the downed wires.
"Our police department and village hall have no phones," says Elmsford Mayor Robert Williams. "They do have 911 services now, but they do not have any regular phone lines."
Following the incident, Route 9A was closed and traffic was diverted to clear away parts of the broken pole and ripped wires.
