The office of state Attorney General Andrew Cuomo has launched an investigation into alleged price gouging at gas stations across the Hudson Valley.

Many stations have signage indicating a bargain for gas, but are accused of failing to disclose the reduced price is only for customers who pay in cash.

It is legal to offer a discount for paying cash, but stations are required to make the cash-only requirement clear. The Attorney General's Office accuses several stations in Orange County of deceiving drivers by not making that clear enough.

Orange County's Department of Consumer Affairs does consider the signs posted by gas stations to be adequate. The department?s commissioner suggests that the Attorney General?s Office iron out more uniform rules for posting prices.
