A proposed law would authorize the Town of Yorktown to install safety cameras in roadway work zones to protect workers.

The bill comes after the 2022 death a Yorktown highway worker – 28-year-old Jake Arcara. He was fatally struck by an 88-year-old driver while he was directing traffic in a work zone.

New York State Assembly Member Matt Slater And state Sen. Pete Harckham are co-sponsoring the bill named "Jake's Law."

Harckham says motorists drive safer when there are cameras on the roadways.

If passed, the Town of Yorktown would become the first municipality in the state of New York to enact such a measure.
