Protesters gathered in support of Black Lives Matter at Irvington Town Hall Saturday.
Dozens of Hudson Valley residents came together to speak out about the fight against inequality.
Many protesters carried signs that read "Black Lives Matter" and "Justice for Duante Wright."
Duante Wright, 20, was shot and killed last Sunday by a Minneapolis police officer who says she thought she was firing her taser, but instead fired her service weapon.
That officer and the police chief have since resigned.
"Duante Wright is one of a number of atrocities that we have to stand up against…this can't go on," says Frank Brodhead, of Hastings-on-Hudson.
Recent acts of violence and harassment against Asian Americans also took center stage at the rally.
Irvington resident Sanghee Won says she hopes the added pressure to support the Asian community will help.
"For me as an Asian woman, it has been very welcoming and comforting to see the community out, supporting Asian communities as well as Black and brown communities," Won says. "Whether it will change minds and actions, I'm not sure."
Kelli Scott, has organized several rallies in the area. She says she hopes that one day, there will be no more need for such events.
"The fight is still not over. We still have work to do, and Daunte Wright reminded us clearly of that," Scott says.
