Public Advocate Letitia James says something needs to be done to help undocumented children navigate immigration court.
James says she wants to start a special service for undocumented children who are in the country without their parents.
"These children as young as 5 years old come without any knowledge of our legal system and are expected to represent themselves in immigration court," says James.
The immigration task force will recruit and train pro-bono attorneys to represent children. James also wants a help desk at immigration court. This would provide counsel and resources for undocumented children and their families. The help desk would also train attorneys.
