Orange County Executive Edward Diana delivered his sixth State of the County address Thursday and stressed the importance of public safety.

The second-term Republican commended the new renovations on the fire training center in New Hampton and highlighted the new high-tech emergency 911 center in Goshen. Diana says the 88,000-square-foot building will have one of the nation's most technologically advanced emergency operations centers to help keep residents safe in times of crisis.

Diana also plans to focus on drivers? safety with the creation of an Orange County Traffic Safety Board. The county has suffered more than 25 fatalities related to motor vehicle accidents in the last year. Diana says the board would address important issues such as accident prevention, driver education and community outreach. However, the most lauded part of his address was the closing of Camp LaGuardia, the homeless shelter, after years of problems.
