Small amounts of a radioactive substance has been discovered in test wells dug around reactors at Indian Point Power Plant.

The substance called tritium was found in wells used to monitor the ground water under the plant. Entergy, which owns Indian Point, say the tritium is not connected to a leak in the plant?s spent fuel pool.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) says tritium is the least dangerous radioactive material. The EPA also say the extremely low levels found at Indian Point are within the agency?s guidelines for drinking water.

Entergy officials say the drilling around the plant may take several more months to find the source of the tritium.
