The wet weather washed out traditional Memorial Day Weekend beach plans.
On a typical long holiday weekend, Rye Beach would be bustling with people soaking up the sun or swimming, but that was not the case on this weekend.
It was the first Memorial Day holiday weekend since the COVID-19 pandemic canceled Memorial Day activities last year.
The rain showers resulted in Rye Beach being deserted on Saturday and Sunday.
"It's unfortunate that on a holiday weekend like this, we're suffering in rain and not good beach weather, you know," said Port Chester resident Lenny Santora.
Santora, who was the only one at Rye Beach on Sunday, recalled sunnier times.
"I'd be loving the sunshine, sunbathing, dipping in the water, working on my tan, talking with some friends," Santora said. "Instead, I'm here with my broken umbrella that's getting me soaked."
Despite the weather, residents are reminded that a whole summer still lies ahead. With many pandemic guidelines being lifted, it is expected crowds will be back to Rye Beach.
