A rally was held in Dobbs Ferry Saturday a few days before the first anniversary of George Floyd's death at the hands of Minneapolis police.

About two dozen people gathered to kneel on one knee for nine and a half minutes.

It is the same length of time that former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin kneeled on the neck of the handcuffed George Floyd last year, resulting in the unarmed man's death.

Floyd's death rejuvenated the Black Lives Matter movement, sparking demonstrations and protests worldwide.

"Tuesday makes one year since the nation was shaken and the world was thrown into protests and rallies in hopes of something changing here in America," says Kelli Scott, an organizer of the rally at Dobbs Ferry.

Throughout the rally, residents repeated the message that "hate has no home here."
