The Town of Ramapo Court is increasing its security after a recent Sloatsburg Village Court shooting.

When entering the courthouse in Ramapo, people will now pass through a metal detector. Security guards with guns will also be on hand. Officials say they felt there was a great need to make sure people in the courtroom will be protected

Police say on May 7, 60-year-old Leo Lewis entered a Sloatsburg courtroom with a .22-caliber rifle and started shooting. He missed his alleged target and is awaiting trial. No one knew had a gun hidden in a manila envelope until it was too late, police say. There was no metal detector in that courthouse.
