Ramapo police investigating shots fired in Hillcrest

Ramapo police are investigating gunfire that happened on East Eckerson between Mallory Road and Edward Lane at around 12:30 a.m. Police do not believe it was random.

Ramapo police are investigating gunfire that happened on East Eckerson between Mallory Road and Edward Lane at around 12:30 a.m.
Police say they went to the area for a call of shots fired adding a vehicle or vehicles left the area. They say it seems to have been targeted and do not believe it was random. Police say they did find shell casings. They were not able to provide additional information because its an active investigation.
"I hear shots start to fire, over there, like six shots fired," said Dalton, a man who has lived off East Eckerson road for 15 years, was up watching TV when he heard the gunfire. "When I hear the shots, I get down on my belly. A stray shot can come through a window. So I stay down on my belly."
Dalton says a similar thing happened in recent years. "It used to be a nice neighborhood but now I start to feel scared."
Investigators were seen in the neighborhood Monday morning.
