A New Square resident is accused of sexually molesting an elderly patient while visiting at New York Presbyterian Hospital with his wife Wednesday, police say.
According to authorities, 27-year-old Yakov Kramer put his hand up the patient's gown and fondled him. Police also claim they have the cloth Kramer allegedly used to clean up the evidence of his act. He was arrested and charged with felony sexual abuse.
Kramer?s neighbors, however, are outraged at the allegations. They say he was only trying to help the 72-year-old patient in his sickbed because there were no nurses around.
People who know Kramer say he is a devout Jewish man who is extremely dedicated to his wife, and they claim the nurse who apparently reported the incident is an anti-Semite.
Neighbors say Kramer plans to fight the allegations and file a lawsuit against New York Presbyterian Hospital.
A hospital spokesman says the administration is taking the situation very seriously and cooperating fully with police.
