Rep. Jamaal Bowman responded to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' attempts to remove Black history from public education by sending a reading list care package.
In a video posted on his Twitter page, Bowman says he is going to send DeSantis various books to become more enlightened and engaged in the education process.
Bowman says DeSantis is trying to erase his history, culture and heritage.
The congressman says that if we do not have knowledge of each other's race, culture, background and ethnicity, we won't have empathy.
“The banning of books, the banning of AP African American History, the fear of learning about another's perspective or opinion or culture – these are the things that are wrong with America. That is why it's not just on me, but it's on everyone to push back against this,” Bowman says.
Some of the books he sent include "How to be Antiracist," by Ibram X. Kendi and "White Fragility," by Robin DiAngelo.
