Petitions were delivered to Congresswoman Sue Kelly?s (R-Katonah) office Tuesday urging federal lawmakers to require an outside agency to investigate recent radioactive leaks at Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant.
Kelly is co-sponsoring legislation that states an in-depth study needs to be made on the design, construction, maintenance and operational safety of the plant. Members of the Indian Point Safe Energy Coalition claim the Nuclear Regulatory Commission cannot be trusted to evaluate safety issues at Indian Point. The group is sending to Congress more than 5,000 signatures in support of Kelly?s legislation.
The legislation also calls for a review of the emergency plans surrounding the plant.
