Croton-on-Hudson residents are protesting plans for a solar field at Hudson National Golf Course.
Protesters say the project would result in the clear cutting of protected land which would destroy wildlife habitat and scar the landscape forever.
Residents believe it's not just about protecting what's there now but protecting the future.
John, the director of Crotons Deserve Responsible Solar said, “We're all doing this for the generation of kids that will be next. We all believe we want a better cleaner future. We just believe we have to go about it in a sensible way, that is in line with the policies and laws and best practices as expressed by the state of New York.”
In a statement to News 12, Village of Croton-on-Hudson Mayor Brian Pugh said “the Matrix Solar application for the Hudson National Golf Course remains under review and
the Board of Trustees will not make a decision until all the facts are in. At Monday’s meeting, we will receive some more information on the project from our engineering consultants and legal staff. We will not be voting on the special permit application tonight and no vote has been scheduled. We have welcomed the community to let us know how they feel about this project. We continue to look forward to everyone’s participation in this process.”
