Yorktown Heights is home to Wilkens Fruit & Fir Farm, a festive Road Trip Close to Home destination for the holiday season.

The farm offers cut-your-own Fraser firs and precut trees for visitors looking for the perfect centerpiece. Owner Randy Pratt said shoppers should look for a tree with a nice green color and good coverage all around.

He added that size matters when picking a tree, as many people choose one that looks great but ends up too big for their home. Pratt said cutting close to the ground is important and workers are available to help.

Once home, Pratt advised keeping the tree watered and away from heat sources like fireplaces or radiators.

The farm also sells wreaths and roping, both decorated and undecorated, in its red barn. Visitors can stop by the bake shop for cider, donuts, pies, and other homemade treats.

Pratt said coming to the farm ensures a fresher tree and a full holiday experience.
