Rockland County Executive Scott Vanderhoef announced Thursday that he's forming an exploratory committee to determine if he has the political backing to run for Kirsten Gillibrand's U.S. Senate seat.
"I don't think she has done a good job," Vanderhoef says.
If Vanderhoef decides to run, it wouldn't be his first try for higher office. In 2002, he ran for Congress, and in 2006, he was on the Republican gubernatorial ticket for lieutenant governor.
Another possible contender, former Tennessee Rep. Harold Ford Jr., decided not to make a Democratic primary run against Gillibrand.
Orange County Executive Ed Diana is also reportedly considering a run for the junior senator's seat.
