A Rockland legislator is pushing to enhance the county?s emergency alert system.
The City Watch Reverse Call System allows the county to call homeowners if there is an emergency in their neighborhood. Rockland Legislator Alden Wolfe (D-Suffern) wants the reverse 911 system to include cell phones and e-mails. Wolfe says that method could alert residents even if they're not in their homes.
The alert system is credited with finding missing children and helping track a murderer. Just last week it was also used during a police standoff in New City. Rockland County will now research the issue before recommending a possible change. That research includes emergency directors talking to their counterparts in Westchester County. Westchester upgraded its systems to include cell phones about a year ago.
