The Rockland County Sheriff's Office took part in simulations and a variety of other exercises as part of a statewide effort known as 'Sheriff's Week.'

The officers worked on a number of scenarios that involved explosions, rioters and clearing areas. The K-9 unit also conducted a mock narcotics search. The K-9s are trained to find marijuana, heroin, cocaine and methamphetamine.

There were also mock drills involving bomb squad dogs. The officers say that if a bomb is detected, they can either use a robot or detonate it themselves.

The officers hope the drills give the public a better idea of what they do to keep everyone safe.
