With the hurricane season well under way, Rockland County's Fire and Emergency Services and the United Water Company conducted a mock emergency drill Friday.

According to the scenario of the drill, a deadly hurricane sweeps through the Hudson Valley, causing major wind and flooding damage in Rockland County.

The task before the United Water Company workers was to prepare for the arrival of the storm, as well as for the devastation left in its wake.

?It really gives us the [ability] to look at the measures we take to ensure the safety not only of our water supply, but the safety of all of our customers,? says Christopher Jensen, of the Office of Fire and Emergency.

In the course of the exercise, conducted inside a room of Rockland emergency center in Pomona, United Water employees broke into strategy sessions and discussed ways of keeping the public informed about progress of the storm and the city?s efforts to minimize the damage.

?We want to be able to get the information out ahead in the anticipation of a power outage and loss of communication so that people are informed ahead of time through radio and television,? says Rich Henning, of United Water Company.

The exercise also included a mock press conference, in which emergency responders explained what was being done to prevent power outages and protect the citizens.
