More properties in Spring Valley are coming under scrutiny by Rockland's new Office of Buildings and Codes.
The office says it's investigating upward of 19 violations at two separate storefront properties at 35 and 37 Commerce St. - all stemming from illegal construction.
The properties are owned by two companies. Officials say there were building out the interiors of those storefronts without permits and failing to install required emergency alarm systems and county-approved electrical connections.
Both companies were also constructing illegal sheds out back.
The Office of Building and Codes has only been in existence for a little under a month.
So far, it has cracked down on a number of illegitimate properties, including an illegal boarding home on George Street that housed more than a dozen people and an illegal nightclub running out of a print shop on Grove Street.
