The surprise winner of the Rockland County district attorney?s race, Tom Zugibe, got down to business on his first day on the job Wednesday.
Zugibe spent the day learning the lay of the land and meeting staff members after winning a contentious race against 12-year Republican incumbent Michael Bongiorno.
Zugibe started by dispelling some rumors, such as a perceived rivalry with Republican Sheriff James Kralik. ?I met with Jim last week about cooperating and doing some joint programs together. He wants to do a lot with us and I want to work with him,? said the new district attorney.
Zugibe said he is most excited to implement new crime prevention programs that will do more than take a one-size-fits-all approach. He said the problems in Spring Valley may be completely different than those in Nyack or Haverstraw.
For now, Zugibe is learning new names around the office, but he has also started working on new cases.
