Community members say kids have been acting out in Rockville Centre - and the bad behavior prompted the village’s police commissioner to write a letter to parents.
Police Commissioner Randy Dodd said in the letter that they’ve seen “a significant increase in disruptive behavior from some of our village’s youth…”
He said incidents include damaging property, stopping traffic and biking dangerously in the streets and causing disturbances in local businesses.
As a result, the Rockville Centre Police Department is “implementing stricter measures.”
“Any youth found engaging in disruptive or destructive behavior will be taken to the police station, and parents will be notified to come and pick up their child," said the commissioner.
Ronni Trutt, a local business owner, say that kids come to her store, throw things and curse at her staff.
She said “it’s been a bit intense.”
Some people told News 12 that kids on bikes are a real danger, because sometimes they will ride directly into traffic.
Another business owner said he hasn’t had any problems and thinks the kids in town are well-behaved and polite.
