Rye police cruiser damaged in wild police chase of stolen cars

Police say they were called to the area of Forest Avenue and Playland Parkway for a reported stolen vehicle.

A wild police chase involving stolen cars raced through the street of Rye on Wednesday.
Police say they were called to the area of Forest Avenue and Playland Parkway for a reported stolen vehicle.
When officers tried to stop the car, the driver sped off.
In the middle of the chase, police say a car that had not been yet reported stolen from a residence in Rye -- crashed into the police cruiser at the intersection of Midland Avenue and Peck Avenue.
A second stolen car from Connecticut picked up the occupants and fled onto I-95 northbound into Connecticut.
The Rye officer involved in the crash did not suffer any serious injuries.
The stolen car from Rye was found to be unlocked with keys in the center console. Police implore residents to lock their vehicles and bring their keyfob inside.
