There is no better place to sample a sip of the changing seasons than in the village of Walden.
This week’s Road Trip: Close to Home starts off the day at Saddle Brook Farm and Rescue.
“They all have their own little stories. They’re not all the same, but some of them have been loved their whole lives. So when we say rescue we just mean that they were homeless, and we got them during their homeless period,” says owner Helen King.
Guests can make a reservation and tour the farm, which houses a couple dozen rescue animals from horses to cows, goats, and chickens.
You can even learn to ride a horse . “We have an indoor arena, an outdoor arena, and trails around the 21 acres,” says King.
After your animal adventure, you can cap off the evening at nearby Angry Orchard. While tours are temporarily closed, you can still enjoy the views and fall foliage that span 60 acres!
Or find out more about their famous cider. “It’s really about storytelling, interacting with people and letting them know what cider is, where it comes from, what it’s made out of; [it] really is the only place you can taste it, we don’t distribute it,” says Ryan Burk, head cider maker.
They’re taking reservations at the newly renovated cider house, where you can sample unique drinks you won’t find anywhere else - from blueberry rosé to locally sourced honey, ginger and apple ciders.
