Sanitation workers of Local Union 108 stood outside Marangi Disposal protesting unfair labor practices yesterday.
Union officials say the workers' contracts expired on Aug. 31, negotiations are at a standstill for the new contract and the company is not maintaining the conditions of the expired agreement.
The waste management company wants to also take away seniority, agree to cap off raises and make workers pay for health care for the next three years or more.
The union also claims the company has been assigning vacation days to employees when they haven't requested them.
Officials estimate Marangi has about 88 workers, and 78 were on strike.
The workers are determined to fight to get what they need for themselves and their family.
