There was a change in leadership Monday at Amazon and the new boss has ties to the Hudson Valley.

Scarsdale High School alumnus Andy Jassy took over as CEO of the company for Jeff Bezos.

Jassy graduated from Scarsdale in 1986 and went on to study at Harvard Business School.

He's been with Amazon since graduating in 1997.

In 2003, he founded Amazon Web Services - the company's most profitable division.

Jassy will now oversee more than 1 million employees, and a company worth $1.8 trillion. He has never forgotten his roots in Westchester.

Jassy came back to Scarsdale High School in 2014 and spoke with students about the impact the community has had on his success at Amazon.

"I had a fantastic experience at Scarsdale High School," Jassy said during his visit.

Fingerprints from his days at the school exist today. He writes in shorthand because of a teacher at the school and praised his Advance Placement U.S. history teacher, Eric Rothchild, during his 2014 visit. "He really changed my opinion that year about how I thought of myself as a student and had a big impact on my life," he said.

Jassy also told the crowd of Scarsdale families and other students that a hunger to always learn is something he wished he knew when he was younger.

Scarsdale Mayor Jane Veron said the village is proud of his success.

"His parents were so committed to Scarsdale because the community is focused on education," Veron said and added that the school district has big goals for its students. "The importance of a commitment to making the world a better place, to educating to teach others about different perspectives," she explained.

Meantime, Bezos transitioned to executive chairman of Amazon's board.
