The Sea Cadet Corps was started in 1954 by World War II veterans to keep kids in the neighborhood busy with positive activities. Now 60 years later, the program is still doing that job for kids in the area.
The program has similar ranks to the Army, but it is more about preparing them for life than for war. The general of Sea Cadet Corps, Joseph Rhonda, served in Iraq for six years.
Rhonda says that around 90 percent of the kids in the program graduate high school, and many go on to the military or church service.
