Westchester County officials are advising residents to avoid contact with the Hudson River following a power failure at the Yonkers Sewage Treatment System.

This comes right at the start of a holiday weekend and another day of dangerously hot temperatures.

Officials are asking people to refrain from swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing, boating with water contact, and any other activities that involve direct contact with the river.

The advisory impacts communities including Yonkers, Hastings-on-Hudson, Dobbs Ferry, Irvington, Tarrytown, Sleepy Hollow, and Briarcliff Manor. Additionally, the Philips Manor Beach Club has been closed until further notice.

News 12 has reached out to officials about what caused the power failure and how long the advisory is expected to remain in effect.
