Mount Vernon Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard has all but made history for the second election in a row.
She declared victory in the Democratic primary for Mount Vernon mayor Tuesday night, calling the results a referendum on her accomplishments in office so far.
This includes her public safety platform, commitment to fixing the city's aging infrastructure and investment in the city's downtown.
With Democrats outnumbering Republicans about 14 to 1 in the city, Patterson-Howard is almost a lock to become the first mayor of the city elected to a consecutive term in 20 years.
"Mount Vernon, today what we see is a mandate on continuity, credibility, character, credentials, and teamwork. Tonight, Mount Vernon said forward together and backward never," she said.
