There are signs of progress at Memorial Field in Mount Vernon, a once notorious eyesore.

It is slated to get a 3,600-seat grandstand. It will also have football, lacrosse and soccer fields, as well as an eight-lane track, tennis courts and a skateboard park.

The $28 million field is being built in partnership with Westchester County.

Project manager Andrew Kalish has overseen all of the work that is being done including the building of the ramp for the handicap in the grandstands, the creation of the plumbing and drainage system and the building of the front entrance and concession stands. 

"It's getting done. It's an interesting project", says Kalish.

The mayor says what’s finished so far is mostly needed infrastructure work. Soon enough the new field, with all of its components, will begin to take shape.

“It’s absolutely a long time coming," says Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard. “And we’re just excited to return an asset, a critical asset back to our community”.

There is no official word on when Memorial Field will open.
