The SPCA Westchester is ensuring that their new rescue puppies receive cuddles to soothe any pain or discomfort.
On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, the shelter's recovery room houses puppies that have just been neutered and spayed.
"When they are waking up and coming out of anesthesia, we don't want them to feel any fear or feel uncomfortable," says executive director Shannon Laukhuf.
That's when "The Puppy Snugglers Club" comes into play. Volunteers come in and snuggle with a puppy for 20 or so minutes and then switch to snuggle another. After that, they go into puppy "pupulation" where they'll be ready for adoption.
The volunteers say they enjoy every minute of helping four-legged friends feel at ease.
"The Puppy Snugglers Club" are held on Tuesdays and Wednesday with a day shift and afternoon shift, and the puppies are up for adoption the next day.
