Spring Valley police say they are seeing an increase in crime on the streets.
The news comes one day after an armed standoff with a robbery suspect on Prospect Street. Zephaniah Seward, 20, and two other men were later arrested and charged with robbing a pizza delivery driver Wednesday night.
On Thursday night, a 51-year-old woman had her purse stolen at gunpoint on the dimly lit East Castle Avenue, police say.
Police are urging residents to be aware of their surroundings when walking at night, travel on well-lit roads and avoid falling into a pattern of walking home in the same direction.
