A Spring Valley woman says mosquitoes are so bad near her house that she feels like a prisoner in her own home.
"I don't go outside. I am scared," says Nancy Lamaute.
Lamaute, who lives on Memorial Park Drive, says she knows the source of the problem.
"The stream used to flow," she says. "Whatever is blocking the stream, they have to unblock it."
She says trash is also an issue.
Next to the stream is a vacant lot that has become a dumping ground for shopping carts and garbage.
"It's not only the trash. There are also homeless people living underneath this bridge," she says of the area.
The alleged dumping spot is directly next door to a day care. Lamaute says she has complained to officials multiple times.
"The mayor told me it wasn't the town's problem, it was the county," she says.
She says Rockland County told her it is not its responsibility either.
News 12's calls to the villages for comment have gone unanswered, and the county says it is looking into the request.
