St. Charles Hospital will be making crucial updates to its emergency department.
The Port Jefferson hospital announced Monday a $10 million expansion project that will include 10 extra treatment bays and nursing stations, along with a larger waiting room.
There will be a new treatment area for patients undergoing substance detoxification and rehabilitation.
St. Charles Hospital President James O'Connor says $4.2 million came from a grant from the New York State Facility Transformation Program. He says the remaining funds for the expansion are from Catholic Health.
The expansion is expected to be complete by the end of summer 2024.
