A TikTok phenomenom from Stamford is being recognized by Guinness World Records
for an unusual world record.
Samantha Ramsdell says she always knew she was different.
"I've always known I've had a big mouth. Since I could look in the mirror,
I've known I had a big mouth,” says Ramsdell.
The Stamford woman says what she calls the "children of TikTok"
latched onto her wide smile right away in the comment sections.
"So I was like, they're obsessed with my mouth…I kind of just leaned into
it,” says Ramsdell. “And that got close to 80 million views…I mean I think I
gained like 100,000 followers overnight.”
More than 1.5 million followers later, Guinness World Records came calling.
Ramsdell tells News 12 she couldn’t believe it, saying in part, "What??
Like, that's crazy. Cause again, I knew my mouth was big, but I didn't know
that it was... world-record setting.”
On Tuesday, Guinness adjudicators confirmed Ramsdell has the largest mouth gape
on record for a woman at 6.52 centimeters.
Ramsdell is also a singer-songwriter and comedian.
She says she never thought
her big break would come from something she's always been insecure about.
"Obviously I get told I'm ugly and I look like a frog and I look like a
big mouth bass," says Ramsdell.
The social media star says she started singing in church, and comedy followed
behind.
She says all the attention is starting to open some doors, and she hopes her
story serves as a lesson to love the things that make you who you are.
"It's finally given me that momentum to do what I've always wanted to do,”
says Ramsdell. "Hopefully it inspires people who think that they're
different to lean into that and know that that makes them special.”
