State and local police packed a Peekskill neighborhood for several hours Monday morning that resulted in a man being taken away in handcuffs. Residents along Lafayette Place told News 12 that police blocked off the neighborhood before 7 a.m. Hudson Street, located one block away, was also closed.
Police officials on the scene would did not release details about the standoff – only saying they were working an ongoing investigation.
Police with various weapons unholstered could be seen moving in and around a house at 153 Lafayette Place throughout the morning. Law enforcement also had several drones in the air. Neighbors said a day care center that operated out of a home next door was evacuated and closed for the day.
Jim Will, who lives two houses down from 153 Lafayette Place, said police did not ask him to stay on lockdown.
“I asked if I could park my car on the street by my driveway and officers told me I would be in the line of fire," he told News 12.
It was about 11:30 a.m. when several officers escorted a man out of the house in handcuffs. The man was wearing socks, with no shoes, shorts and no coat. Officers quickly got the man into a police vehicle and drove away.
It does not appear anyone was injured. There was no ambulance on scene.
