The New York Attorney General's Office says an off-duty Monticello village police officer struck a man as he was crossing the street last month.
It happened near Pleasant and High streets on Nov. 25.
Five days after the crash, the man died, according to officials.
No charges have been filed.
The investigation is required under state law.
